RADICALLY DIFFERENT THERAPY · MISSOURI
Couples counseling for Carterville, MO.
You spend a lot of energy deciding what you can say.
You wait for a better mood, change the wording, or decide the conversation can wait another day. Eventually your partner hears about the problem only after you have been upset for weeks. If everyday honesty has become this difficult, we can look at what happens when you try.

WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?
What are you editing out?
You may be leaving out disappointment, a request for affection, or an opinion you expect your partner to dislike. Keeping those things to yourself can make the evening easier while leaving you less known in the relationship.
We work on the exchange around honesty: the hesitation before speaking, the response that follows, and the conclusions you both draw. You should have room to express a need and hear an answer.
No fluff, no BS therapy for relationships that need radical help.

Bring the everyday subjects you have learned to approach carefully or avoid altogether.

02
Address the harder questions when secrecy or betrayal has affected what feels believable.

THE WORK IN THE ROOM
Your hesitation tells us something.
In a session, I may notice that you begin a sentence and then soften it until its meaning disappears. We can pause there. I want to understand what you expect will happen if your partner hears the full thought.
Emotionally Focused Therapy helps us connect that expectation to the way you protect yourself. We also look at your partner’s response: do they become alarmed, explain immediately, or assume they are about to be rejected?
I help both of you stay with the conversation long enough to understand it. We practice clearer requests and more engaged responses, with attention to each person’s limits and responsibility.
You do not have to polish every sentence before we can use it.

BEFORE YOU SCHEDULE
Questions about getting started.
Where do we meet if we live in Carterville, MO?
Your appointment is at my office in Webb City, Missouri, near Joplin: 2830 Mt. Hope Rd., Webb City, MO 64870. Both partners attend in person at this location.
Can I say that I am nervous about the conversation?
Yes. That is useful information. We can talk about what makes speaking difficult and what you are expecting from your partner or from me before going further.
What if I lose my words in the room?
I can ask questions, slow the exchange, and help you work out what you are trying to express. Being articulate is not a requirement for participating in therapy.
Do we need to have one major problem?
No. You may be coming because ordinary conversations have become strained or because too much is going unsaid. We can begin with a recent example and build from there.
FOR COUPLES IN CARTERVILLE, MO
