RADICALLY DIFFERENT THERAPY · MISSOURI

Couples counseling for Carthage, MO.

You are trying to talk. Trust changes every conversation.

After a betrayal, an ordinary question can carry a great deal of hurt. One person wants reassurance; the other is afraid of another conversation that never seems to end. If this is where you are, we can begin with what happened, what remains uncertain, and what responsibility needs to look like.

WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?

Repair needs something solid to stand on.

You may want a clear plan while also wondering whether you believe anything your partner says. The person who caused the injury may want to help and still become defensive when the hurt comes up again.

We can work on those conversations without rushing past the betrayal. Accountability, honest answers, and the impact of what happened belong in the work. Your questions about the relationship’s future belong here, too.

No fluff, no BS therapy for relationships that need radical help.

THE WORK IN THE ROOM

We stay with the injury and what follows it.

I help you talk about the impact in a way that gives us something to work with. That may mean slowing a defensive explanation, helping someone finish describing the hurt, or asking what remains unanswered.

Emotionally Focused Therapy gives us a way to understand the bond between you and how the injury has changed it. Understanding the relationship’s patterns does not transfer responsibility for a betrayal to the person who was hurt.

We also pay attention to the present: what your partner does when you need reassurance, what you can honestly offer, and whether your actions support your words. There is no promise of a particular outcome or a deadline for feeling ready.

A wish to move forward still needs room for what happened.

BEFORE YOU SCHEDULE

Questions about getting started.

Where do we meet if we live in Carthage, MO?

Your appointment is at my office in Webb City, Missouri, near Joplin: 2830 Mt. Hope Rd., Webb City, MO 64870. Both partners attend in person at this location.

Do I have to forgive my partner before we come?

No. You can arrive hurt, uncertain, and unsure what you want next. We can begin by understanding what has happened and what each person is willing to address.

Will talking about our pattern excuse the affair?

No. We can understand the relationship and still be clear about responsibility for a choice that caused harm. Accountability is part of the conversation.

Can we come if trust is the issue but there was no affair?

Yes. Secrecy, broken agreements, and repeated disappointments can also damage trust. Tell me what happened and how it is affecting the relationship; you do not need to fit a particular category.
