RADICALLY DIFFERENT THERAPY · KANSAS

Couples counseling for Pittsburg, KS.

You need room to be yourselves and a way to feel close.

One person wants more time together; the other feels stretched by the expectation. Plans with friends, time alone, or a demanding schedule become arguments about how much the relationship matters. We can work on the meaning of those differences and how you ask for what you need.

WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?

What does time together—and time apart—mean to you?

Wanting space may mean rest or a chance to feel like yourself. Your partner may hear it as a wish to get away from them. Asking for more time together may be an invitation that lands as a restriction.

We can examine those meanings before they harden into labels about who is needy or who does not care. The work includes the practical decisions and the emotional response each person has to them.

No fluff, no BS therapy for relationships that need radical help.

01

Work on differences in closeness, independence, and how you make time for the relationship.

02

If betrayal affects what time apart means, bring those trust concerns into the work.

03

Explore intimacy when different needs for connection become a source of pressure.

04

Discuss shared routines and independence as you plan a life together.

THE WORK IN THE ROOM

We get curious about the meaning before another fight starts.

I ask what you experience when your partner asks for space or asks you to stay. We can trace how that feeling becomes a response: arguing for your freedom, asking for proof that you matter, or withdrawing from the discussion.

Emotionally Focused Therapy helps us understand the need beneath that reaction. I help you express it more directly and listen to your partner without immediately having to defend your own position.

Then we can work on the conversation about plans and expectations. Both personal space and responsiveness to the relationship deserve thoughtful attention. The aim is a clearer exchange in which each person has a voice.

Your partner may be hearing a meaning you never intended.

BEFORE YOU SCHEDULE

Questions about getting started.

Where do we meet if we live in Pittsburg, KS?

Your appointment is at my office in Webb City, Missouri, near Joplin: 2830 Mt. Hope Rd., Webb City, MO 64870. Both partners attend in person at this location.

Do we have to be married to come?

No. I work with married, engaged, and committed couples. The focus is the relationship you are in and what the two of you want help with.

Will wanting more independence be treated as a problem?

We will look at what independence means to you, what your partner experiences, and how you handle the difference. Neither preference tells the whole story on its own.

Can a scheduling disagreement really be a therapy issue?

Yes, when it is repeatedly affecting the relationship. We can examine the practical conflict and what each person hears about their importance, freedom, or reliability during those conversations.

FOR COUPLES IN PITTSBURG, KS
