RADICALLY DIFFERENT THERAPY · MISSOURI
Couples counseling for Goodman, MO.
You want to believe the promise. You have heard it before.
After a difficult night, you both mean what you say about changing. Then a familiar moment arrives and the old response comes back. If another promise has started to feel exhausting, we can work on what gets in the way between wanting change and living it.

WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?
What happens between the promise and the next hard moment?
One person may be waiting for evidence while the other wants credit for trying. That mismatch can quickly become another fight: you feel watched for failure, or you feel asked to trust before anything has changed.
We can examine the specific behavior, what interrupts follow-through, and how both of you respond when disappointment returns. Change needs enough detail that you can recognize it in ordinary life.
No fluff, no BS therapy for relationships that need radical help.

THE WORK IN THE ROOM
We work with what actually happens next.
I ask about a real moment when your intentions ran into difficulty. What did you notice? What did you assume about your partner? At what point did you reach for the response you had promised to change?
Emotionally Focused Therapy helps us understand the emotion and expectation driving that moment. I help you communicate what is happening before it turns into another familiar exchange, while also staying accountable for your choices.
We can then talk about the effect of the changes you try. Your partner may need consistency before they feel reassured. There is room to discuss that skepticism and to be clear about what has and has not improved.
Good intentions need a place to become observable actions.

BEFORE YOU SCHEDULE
Questions about getting started.
Where do we meet if we live in Goodman, MO?
Your appointment is at my office in Webb City, Missouri, near Joplin: 2830 Mt. Hope Rd., Webb City, MO 64870. Both partners attend in person at this location.
What if I am skeptical that therapy will change anything?
You can say that openly. I want to know what you have already tried and what disappointed you. We can discuss what you would need to see to consider the work useful.
Will agreeing in the session be enough?
Agreement can be a beginning. We also pay attention to what happens afterward and how each of you experiences it. Follow-through and the barriers to it are part of the work.
Can you guarantee my partner will change?
No. I can be direct, help you understand the pattern, and work with both of you on different responses. Each person remains responsible for participating and for their own behavior.
