THE WORK IN THE ROOM
When the pattern shows up, we work with it.
The first appointment gives me a chance to hear what brought you in and how each of you understands the problem. You can also get a sense of what it is like to work with me. Questions and skepticism are welcome.
I use Emotionally Focused Therapy. When one person pushes for an answer and the other closes off, I help slow the exchange down. We pay attention to the fears, expectations, and needs driving those reactions.
I will ask you to try speaking to each other while I help. The aim is to make the important things easier to hear and respond to. We also talk honestly about what is changing and where you are still stuck.
You will know I am in the room with you.

Can we talk about sex during couples therapy?
Yes. Sex and intimacy are part of my couples work. You can raise the subject directly, even if the two of you find it embarrassing or disagree about what is happening.
How do we choose the right kind of appointment?
You do not need to diagnose the relationship or choose a perfect label before contacting me. Tell me what you want help with. The session format is 100–110 minutes, in person, with both partners.
