Couples Counseling for Miami, OK — In Person, Forty-Three Minutes Up the Turnpike

Forty-three minutes on the Will Rogers and you're here.
It's a toll road. I mention that because it is a real cost sitting on top of a real fee, and I would rather name it than have it turn up as an unpleasant surprise in your centre console.
Sessions are in person at my office in Webb City, MO.
What I know about Miami, and what I don't
Miami is the headquarters of five tribal nations — the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, the Modoc, the Ottawa, the Peoria and the Shawnee. That is a defining fact about the town rather than a footnote to it, and it shapes family structure, obligation, and what "our people" means inside a marriage in ways that differ enormously household to household.
I am not going to claim expertise I do not have. I have not trained in tribal or Indigenous-specific clinical practice, and if that is central to what you need, you deserve someone who has.
What I can tell you is that I will not quietly substitute my assumptions for your reality. If extended family, tribal community, or obligations that do not fit a nuclear-family template are part of what is straining things between you, that goes on the table in the first session instead of being politely worked around. And if I do not understand something, I will say so and ask, rather than nodding.
That is not cultural competence and I am not going to dress it up as such. It is just refusing to pretend, which turns out to be rarer than it should be.
Nobody has to perform a breakthrough
A first session is not an audition. You do not need to arrive with an agreed account of the problem, and you certainly do not need to arrive calm.
Most couples turn up with two incompatible stories and a shared suspicion that the other one is going to get the therapist on side. That does not happen here. I am not interested in which of you is right, partly on principle and mostly because it has never once been the useful question.
The therapy itself
Emotionally Focused Therapy, couples only — the entire practice, not a sideline. If you want the background, here is what EFT actually is.
The premise: your recurring fight is not about its subject. It has never once been about its subject. It is about whether the two of you can still reach each other when it actually matters, and the subject is simply whatever was lying around when the alarm went off.
The work is finding your particular loop and interrupting it, which for most couples happens somewhere in the first month and is generally the point at which somebody says something out loud that the other one has been waiting years to hear.
Sessions are 100 to 110 minutes — the mini-intensive, the only format I run. $180, private pay. Factor the drive and the toll in before you start rather than after, because this work depends on rhythm far more than it depends on any single session.
